Often our clients ask if we can help with medical consumer PR. We can and we do. Our links to beauty and health journalists and mainstream publications has been 15 years in the making and we know the people to talk to if you want to get your name out there.
But. And it’s a BIG But. It is very much about the story. Indeed we won’t take on a client if there isn’t a story that we think we can sell. For example, a cosmetic surgeon in Twickenham has started his own practice might be interesting to him, his family and friends, but its not going to make the Daily Mail on the strength of that alone. It needs meat on the bones. It needs a celebrity, it needs a unique procedure or something that someone will find interesting beyond the actual clinic.
PR is a collaboration between you and the journalist. You’re not actually paying for the exposure, so you have to sing for your supper. The journalist is working for a publication or website and what he needs is people to read the copy he produces, either by buying the paper or visiting the site and driving up traffic. And lets not forget that the journo and media outlets are getting bombarded with press releases endlessly. So it has to be interesting.
If you want to get facts out there then buy an advert – if you want free publicity get your thinking cap on and come up with something good.
Which brings me neatly to the article that’s illustrated above. Put aside for a second any moral issues you have with a father giving his kids breast augmentations and let’s just look at it from a publicity angle – it has all the perfect ingredients for a great mainstream story:
Family interest, they’re sisters.
Their lives are made better.
Their dad is a surgeon (lots of media will prick up their ears when the words ‘Plastic Surgeon’ are mentioned).

And you put the whole lot together and you have a guaranteed PR home run. Even though it’s a bit odd, its definitely one of those times when all publicity is good publicity. This would have yielded some great media coverage in the States where they all live (California of course!) and the money that Dr Michael Niccole paid his PR agency is money well spent, his practice will boom as a result. He’s so sure of his work and abilities he’ll operate on his daughters, the most precious thing a man can have – from a consumer perspective you simply can’t say better than that. And lets not forget the ego trip of a story about you that goes round the world. So although it being published in the UK isn’t going to benefit Dr Michael Niccole directly for his business it’ll make him feel good knowing people across the world are talking about him.

SkinGeeks contacted us to develop a case study video project.
The project entailed two visits to their client to document the application of a rosacea treatment. There was some logistic planning involved with the shoot as we had to work with the practitioner and patient and so we filmed on a Sunday. The follow up shoot was to document the results.
Westbury Bristol is a new chain of clinics that have opened in the UK. Their first branch opened Bristol in September. We were approached to put together their brand strategy, site build and assist with the roll out. We also run their PPC campaign for them.
The guys on the ground in Bristol are Anthony Macquillan and Paul Wilson. Really friendly people, nice to work with as well as being highly qualified surgeons. This was a great project for us as we started with a completely blank sheet. So we created the brand from the logo up, basing it on quality and local service.
PROJECT #1 – Get the website up!
First step for any new practice is a website. As is usual we created a draft design concept which the client approved. Then we built this onto into a wordpress site with content management system. The site is responsive, so it’s mobile friendly and looks great on a tablet. Being WordPress it’s very SEO friendly and is already ranking page one for some good terms. Here it is.

We’ve done 15 in total covering all the procedures. Here’s an example.

Mr Turton keeps a finger firmly on the pulse of the marketing world and had heard that having video on your site can really help in developing visitor engagement. We did a series of 7 short videos which explained the main procedures he offers. Here is an example

His website was rather dated but we were massively impressed because he had actually built it himself about 10 years ago using Dreamweaver.
One of the risks of switching a well established site onto a brand new platform is that you can sometimes lose traffic so we suggested building an entirely new website and running this in tandem with his existing one. Having two websites is quite a sensible strategy because it gives you double the exposure on the internet.
Mr Karoo is a fully qualified Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon working in both the NHS and private practice. He based in Cardiff. This is his first website which we created on a WordPress platform.
Mr Rohit Pratap is a Herfordshire based Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon. He was listed on a number of sites but didn’t have his own dedicated website. He’d been delaying getting one for a few years and asked us to come up with something clean and professional to represent his practice.
We worked with him to create the right look for the site and built it on a wordpress platform so that he could update the site himself using the inbuilt content management system. We also built a blog into the site so that he could keep it updated with content.
The site is also created on a responsive template so that it renders well on tablets and mobiles.
